The School Resource Officer (SRO) Program is a partnership that developed in 2012 between the Grandview Police Department and the Grandview Independent School District. The SRO is a full-time, uniformed Grandview police officer assigned to the school district during the school year.
SRO's receive specialized training to perform three major roles in the schools: law enforcement officer, law enforcement counselor, and law enforcement educator. In addition, the SRO works in collaboration with the schools as a resource for safety and security issues.
The primary goal for the SRO program is to be highly visible and keep students, teachers, and staff members safe in the schools. Other goals include providing a positive image; establishing rapport with students, parents, teachers and staff; creating and expanding programs to increase student participation; providing counseling to students; and enforcing laws.
